The Second Batch of Relief Supplies on the Way to Italy
May.09.2025After sending the first supplies on March 26th, the second relief supplies all together, such as more than 4000 N95 masks, 500 thousand surgical masks, 8000 protective clothing, masks, and isolation gown, and with 4000 goggles which were already arrived at dawn today, were transported from Shijiazhuang to Beijing. There are 456 boxes, about 2.5 million yuan.
To make sure that the supplies can be sent on time and catch the flight, the staff of Jinde Charities made the most of their time to classify, code and paste the address for the supplies. The night before, Jinde staff kept working until 1am. When they are loading, three batches of protective clothing are arriving. To catch the cargo plane, they had to start off until noon. Finally, the three batches of protective clothing were loaded and taken. To make 4000 goggles catch this charter flight, Fr. Zhang Hongbo from Beijing diocese helped to receive these goggles and paste code carefully. After contacting a few times, these supplies were signed successfully.
All these relief supplies will be used for the patients in the worst-hit region of Italy, some communities with confirmed cases, the catholic priests and nuns who are serving refugees, also the refugees, and the patients from hospitals, nursing home, religious communities in Germany and Spain depending on the will of the donors. Fr. Sun Xuyi from the Italian Matteo Ricci Research Center introduced that Marche where he lives is the second outbreak in northern Italy. The population of Marche is small, while the mortality is high. The most of the supplies from all over the world were sent to Milan and Rome. Marche was short for supplies. Many doctors didn’t have professional protective masks and they had to use ordinary mask. Hospital logistics staff, and the second and third line medical staff had to use cloth masks which were made by the monastery. They said that it is better than nothing. Fr. Sun said, “We are very grateful and moved by the Chinese medical team coming to help Marche. This also shows the severity of the epidemic.” Machelita in Marche is Matteo’s hometown. Some of the supplies which were sent today will be used to helped Machelita. Some catholic priests of Machelita were confirmed, and even one priest is in intensive-care unit. Bp. Nazzareno Marconi from this diocese expects the supplies can arrive as soon as possible.
After a scholar knew that Jinde Charities is helping Milan and Machelita, he generously donated 20000 yuan to both places. Before that he had donated 10000 yuan to Wuhan. He said, “Italy is a friendly country. There are some friends who are very nice to me. I want to try my best to help them.”
